Squarespace product uploadsfrom your supplier’s spreadsheet
Send the spreadsheet exactly as your supplier sent it. We hand back the same products in Squarespace’s own import template, filed into the categories your store already has, with the gaps filled from sources you can check and every image link opened. You check it, then import it.

How it works
Send the file as it arrived
Any columns, any names, and no template to fill in. A SKU or barcode on each row is enough to start.
We get it ready for Squarespace
We match every product to the real thing and check it against a source. The gaps are filled, the formats are fixed, and the rows follow Squarespace’s template: a first row for each product, then a row for every size or colour, filed under your store page and your categories.1
You check it, then import it
Nothing goes live without your sign-off. When you are happy, click Import in your Products panel and drop the file in.1
Where supplier spreadsheets break a Squarespace import
Squarespace’s import creates nothing for you. It files products only under the store page and categories you already have, and it takes each image once. These are the things in a supplier’s file that trip it up, each with Squarespace’s own help page linked.
Categories your store does not have
BeforeHome >
Bedding > SheetsBedding/ Fitted After/
bedding/ sheets Squarespace files a product only under a category that already exists on your site, written as the end of that category’s web address: lowercase, starting with a /, like its own example /clothing/blouses. A category your store does not have comes back as “Categories not assigned”.1 We file each product into the categories you already have and write them the way the import reads them.
Sizes listed as separate products
BeforeFitted Sheet SingleFitted Sheet DoubleFitted Sheet King
Afterone product in three sizes
Squarespace builds sizes and colours from the file itself. The title, description, categories and images go on a product’s first row, each pair of Option Name and Option Value columns makes a variant, and every combination gets a row of its own.1 A supplier who lists each size as a separate product hands you three products to look after. We group them under one first row, with every size and colour on a row below it.
Image links that lead to a web page
Beforea link to the supplier’s product pagefs400_front.jpg
Afterhttps links straight to each image
The import takes pictures only as web links, each leading “directly to the image, not a page that includes the image” and ending in a file type such as .jpg. It cannot take files from your computer.1 Importing again cannot change images either, so they have to be right the first time.3 We open every link before the file is built and swap thumbnails for the full-size original.
Units typed into the weight
Before650g1.4 lbs
After0.65
Weight, length, width and height take numbers and a decimal point only, and the unit comes from your store’s measurement standard: imperial in pounds, or metric in kilograms.12 We convert every weight to your store’s unit before the unit comes off, so nothing arrives a thousand times too heavy. A product with no weight or measurements brings “Unable to calculate shipping rates” to a store that charges postage by weight.2
One tag, three spellings
BeforeCottoncottonCOTTON
Aftercotton
Squarespace treats tags as case-sensitive: in its own example, Apples, apples and APPLES make three tags.4 Tags are also what a store page’s filters are built from, so three spellings put three choices in front of a shopper for one thing.5 We fold every spelling onto the one you choose, and several tags share a cell with commas between them.1
Descriptions pasted from a brochure
Before• 400TC • 100% cotton • see our website
Afterplain sentences written from the specs
When an import keeps failing, Squarespace’s help points at the formatting inside the cells and names bulleted lists, links and unusual characters as the common culprits.1 A supplier’s description is often all three. We write each description fresh from the product’s own specifications, as plain text.
A heading above the column names
BeforeACME Linens Price List 2026
Afterthe column names in row 1
Supplier price lists often open with a company name or a logo. Squarespace’s template keeps its column names in the first row, with Product ID [Non Editable] in the first cell, and an extra row at the top stops the import with “Missing column. Add product ID column.”1 The file comes back as Squarespace’s template, with nothing above the column names.
What you get back
A Google Sheet or Excel file laid out in Squarespace’s import template, with one tab per category, and the same products before and after so you can see exactly what changed.
Every product matched and checked
We match each SKU or barcode to the real product and check that every source page really shows that product.
The gaps filled, with sources
We find missing specifications, descriptions and images on manufacturer and retailer pages. Every value keeps a link to where it came from, so anyone on your team can check it.
One spelling for every tag
Cotton, cotton and COTTON become the one tag you choose, so your store page’s filters offer one option instead of three, and every future file lands on the same word.
Titles and descriptions written from the facts
Product titles and descriptions are written from the values already in the data, in plain text, to length limits that are enforced, not hoped for.
Images right the first time
You get the full-size original behind every thumbnail, with logos, badges and duplicates taken out, and every link opened to confirm it leads straight to the picture.
A score before anything goes live
The file gets one quality score and each product gets a grade, worst first, so you know what to look at. It warns, and it never blocks.

Questions Squarespace sellers ask
What Squarespace sellers ask before they send us a file. Anything else, ask us and a person answers.
Do you upload the products to my Squarespace store?
No, you run the import yourself. In the Products panel, choose Import, drop the file in the Upload Squarespace CSV box, check what Squarespace found and save. If Squarespace reports an error, its advice is to correct the file and import it again.
Do I need to set anything up first?
Yes. Squarespace’s import only files products under a store page and categories your site already has, so those need to exist before you import. Each product in the file goes into the categories you already use.
Will importing it change products I already have?
A file made from Squarespace’s template creates new products. To change existing ones you need Squarespace’s own export, edited and imported back, and even that “can’t delete products or update product images”. Each import is also “a one-time import”, so later changes to the file “won’t automatically sync”. Untick Update product quantities if you want your stock levels left as they are.
Can the products go in hidden?
Yes. Squarespace’s Visible column takes Yes or No, and No keeps a product hidden after the import until you choose to show it. An import cannot schedule anything, though: it can “only publish or hide”, so you set a launch date on each product afterwards, from Visibility in the product editor.
Can each size or colour have its own photo?
Not through the import. Squarespace takes image links on a product’s first row only and says “It’s not possible to assign variant images in the upload file”, so you add each variant’s photo in the product editor afterwards. Imported products also have no featured image set, so you pick that by hand too.
Do the image links have to keep working after the import?
No. After the import, Squarespace “becomes the host for these image files”, and changing or deleting the links later “won’t affect your images”. A link only has to work on the day, lead straight to the picture and end in a file type such as .jpg. We open every one before the file is built. If pictures still fail to appear, Squarespace suggests swapping http:// for https://, or the reverse.
How many products can I import?
Squarespace allows 10,000 products on a version 7.1 site and 200 on version 7.0, with up to 250 variants for each product. Each variant gets a row of its own under the product’s first row, so a file has more rows than products.
Doing it yourself?
Everything on this page is written up in full on the blog, with Squarespace’s own pages cited, and every word of the trade is in the glossary in plain English.
