Landing page

A landing page is the page on your website a shopper arrives at after clicking your product on Google, set by the link attribute in your feed.

Also known as
  • Product landing page

What it means

In Google Merchant Center, the landing page is the product’s own page on your site. Google puts it plainly: “When users click on your product, they’re sent to a landing page on your website for that product.” Its address goes in the link [link] attribute, which every product needs.1

Google sets minimum requirements for the page and disapproves products that miss them. It must work on mobile and desktop, sit on the web address you verified with Google and let Google’s crawler reach it. It must also show the product at once, without asking users “to register, sign in or take any other actions”.1

It is also what Google checks your data against. The price and availability in your feed have to agree with the page, or the product may be disapproved.23

Think of it like this

It is the shelf a shop assistant walks you to when you ask for something. If the shelf holds a different price, or a different item, the walk was wasted.

For example

A navy Hollinsby hoodie in size M has the link https://www.example.com/hoodies/hollinsby?variant=navy-m. A shopper who clicks lands on that hoodie with navy and M already chosen, as Google advises: link “with the correct variant selected”.1

Why it matters

Every click from Google, free or paid, arrives here, and Google judges your data against this page. It is also where the shopper decides: Google notes that users who view the product they clicked on “are more likely to purchase it”.1

Not to be confused with

A landing page is not your homepage or a category page. Google wants the specific product’s page, and lists a landing page that “redirects to a generic page instead of the specific product page” among issues that can lead to disapprovals.4
